Building Maintenance CityTech + ClimateYou
ConEd has long supported City Tech to educate and to inform the public of climate related sciences that can be put to practical uses. This pilot program will teach Continuing Education students climate science and how to use climate model data so they can understand climate risks and apply the knowledge in practical applications.

Course Introduction
This course introduces building maintenance through the lens of climate science and urban resilience. Participants gain a practical understanding of how buildings operate, how climate change affects building systems, and why maintenance is critical to safety, efficiency, and long-term performance.
Developed in partnership with City Tech and ClimateYou, the course connects core maintenance practices with climate trends, energy use, and environmental justice, with a focus on buildings and communities in New York City.
Topics
- Overview of building systems and day-to-day operations
- Preventive maintenance, safety, and risk reduction
- Energy use and efficiency in building management
- Climate impacts on buildings, including heat, flooding, and extreme weather
- Identifying common maintenance challenges and system vulnerabilities
- The role of building maintenance in climate resilience and sustainable cities
