Climate Change Affects Agriculture

Climate change affects agriculture, industry, and tourism along with those impacted such as farmers, city dwellers, and the poor. The way climate change can affect agriculture is by disrupting the availability of crops for farmers. It can also affect the weather which may affect the quality of crops and what crops are in season. According to the U.S Environmental on January 2, 2024 Agriculture and Climate Change published by EPA.gov states “temperature changes can cause habitat ranges and crop planting dates to shift and droughts and foods due to climate change may hinder farming practices”. This means that climate change can affect the weather which can cause certain areas to become droughts while other areas may be flooded. Climate change affects farmers’ ability to predict what crops would be best to plant in season.

Climate change has an effect on tourism due to certain countries being hotter than usual. Airplanes have issues flying due to the air being less dense. According to the World Economic Forum on August 14, 2023 , Rising global temperatures are already affecting the tourism industry here’s how published by weforum.org says “The tourism sector creates around a tenth of the greenhouse gas emissions that are driving the climate crisis … heatwaves will become hotter and longer unless the world quickly halts its use of fossil fuels” this means, because tourists fly to different countries or drive, it contributes by polluting the air because of the use of gas. Tourists also are leaving their vacations earlier due to immense heatwaves; this can cause the economic factor of that country to decline if it relies on tourism.

Climate change can affect city dwellers and the poor because there would be a shortage of fresh vegetables due to droughts. The city pavements will become hotter which may increase heatwaves. This can affect poor individuals who cannot seek out shelter during the weather. According to Heather Leighton on Sep 3, 2019, How Climate Change is Going to Affect Cities, Urban Spaces published by Kinder.rice.edu she states “temperatures are getting hotter… among weather-related fatalities, heat was the cause of more deaths…more than 70,000 people died in Europe from a severe heatwave.” This means that heatwaves cause deaths in big cities that have pavement or no natural shade. This can also affect the elderly and people with underlying diseases because heat waves can cause health-related issues and even death.

To conclude, climate change affects agriculture, industry, and  tourism and the people impacted such as farmers, city dwellers, and the poor. The way climate change can affect agriculture is by disrupting the availability of crops for farmers. It can also affect the weather which may affect the quality of crops and what crops are in season. Climate change affects tourism due to certain countries being hotter than usual and airplanes having  a struggle flying due to the air being less dense. Climate change can affect city dwellers and the poor because there would be a shortage of fresh vegetables due to droughts. The city pavements will become hotter which can increase heatwaves.

One Response

  1. I appreciate how your blog sheds light on the far-reaching impacts of climate change on agriculture, industry, tourism, and vulnerable populations. As you highlighted, the disruptions in agriculture caused by climate change, such as shifts in weather patterns and the challenges faced by farmers in predicting crop viability and planting schedules, are indeed concerning. This has significant implications for food security and agricultural economies.

I agree that the impact of climate change on tourism worldwide could greatly affect the overall economic stability of countries reliant on tourism revenue, given the rising global temperatures affecting travel patterns and airplane operations. Furthermore, the discussion on climate change’s effect on city dwellers and the poor adds depth to the analysis. As residents of urban areas, we are all too familiar with the increased risks of heatwaves and related health issues, particularly among vulnerable populations.

Your conclusion succinctly summarizes the main points and reinforces the interconnected nature of climate change’s impacts across various sectors and demographics. Overall, your blog provides a comprehensive overview of the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change and effectively communicates the urgency of addressing these issues. Great job!
