Heat waves, Drought, Floods, Sea Level Rise — Impacts of Climate Change

Climate change significantly impacts the welfare of the people because it affects critical resources. Extreme impacts of climate change are costing America about $150 billion each year due to global warming (NOAA). The changes in temperatures and typical cyclones lead to a low growth of GDP. These effects on the nation indicate the need to embrace interventions that will promote the wellbeing of the people. This essay will discuss climate change based on heat waves, drought, floods, sea level rise, storms, and famine.

Droughts may be experienced as a result of climate change impacting rainfall patterns. The changes might lead to global warming, where some areas may lack rainfall, thus affecting agricultural practices. The heat waves will also increase due to global warming and these changes affect how individuals manage critical aspects of the environment.

Climate change causes global warming, expanding the sea and adding water from the melting ice caps. High fossil fuel emissions to the environment is leading to 40 C global warming, leading to an 8.9m global mean sea level rise (Climate Central). The unprecedented outcomes might cause flooding in low-lying areas, making them inhabitable for the people. The coastal flooding and increased risk of drowning are likely to affect the tourism sector of most countries. Thus, there is a need to adopt changes that will help promote the welfare of the people through mitigating climate change.

Climate change might also increase the risk of storms and famine, making it disastrous for the people. Weather changes are likely to be encountered, leading to an increase in global temperatures. The conditions may make it difficult for the farmers to cultivate agricultural products. Storms are likely to be fueled when the atmospheric water increases due to evaporation (USGS). The wind speeds may increase due to the high ocean surface and atmosphere temperature.

How People Can Adapt

Community resilience and engagement programs are vital to addressing the impacts of climate change. The engagement programs may involve embracing preventive measures that will promote their wellbeing. For example, individuals living in flood-prone areas can move to higher areas. Such changes can be incorporated at the community level to enhance quality outcomes. The leaders may be expected to mobilize the people and embrace the changes that mitigate the effects of climate change. The people can also adapt to the impact of climate change by enhancing economic equity. Sharing resources is a critical attribute that can help people adapt to climate change. It can help empower people to manage the effects of climate change and embrace preventive measures.

The policy framework can also incorporate the fight for a safe climate. The regulation framework may be paramount in the execution of interventions vital for the wellbeing of the community. Renewable energy rooted in justice would effectively eradicate fossil fuels (350.org). Fossil fuels will likely lead to global warming due to the increased carbon emissions. Therefore, the advocacy for renewable energy would effectively prevent global warming. Technology can also be incorporated into conservation measures. It can be used to educate people on the need to conserve the environment and avoid waste. The intervention would help mitigate the effects of the changing attributes in the environment.

Conclusively, climate change is an issue that should be addressed towards enhancing a conducive environment. It leads to drought, storms, increased sea levels, famine, floods, and heat waves. These impacts might affect an individual’s welfare in managing environmental stressors. Climate change can be managed through renewable energy, community resilience programs, and deployment of technologies. People may be required to adapt to the changes towards conserving energy and protecting the environment.

  1. Hi ozlem I loved The article and as I read All I could Think about is Libya and how they are currently experiencing the effects of climate change. A huge part of Libya was completely wiped by a flood. Many people lost their homes and family members. I do Hope that as a society we can see what’s occurring and completely make a turn to stop or slow down climate change
